Yes This is the size of my COOLER! I could fit my son in it!!
As a Flight Attendant it is essential that you have a good food bag! Some of our obstacles on the road are:
1. Food Chains (McD’s, Cinnabon, Pizza Hut, Popeye’s Chicken, etc)
2. Hot food vs cold food. I’m not always in the mood for a cold wrap or cold food and when I want warm food it’s hard to find a place to heat it up. On our planes we don’t have microwaves either
3. Spoiling food from not keeping it cold!
4. Finding a cooler big enough to hold 3 days worth of food, yet not so huge you’re carrying a fridge. AND it has to fit in the overhead bins.
5. don’t get me started on keeping fit on the road! That’s another challenge all together!
Here is my Basics:
Food bag basics: 1200 calorie diet
Breakfast options:
¾ cup oatmeal with 1 cup blueberries, cinnamon- 325 calories
100 calorie greek yogurt with 1 cup kasha go lean cereal: 240 calories
Shakeology: (its best to purchase the Hamilton Beach single serving Blender, shakes are just better that way) Make sure your protein shake doesn’t go over 300 calories
Lunch options:
6 ounces of Baked Chicken with 1 bag of steamed veggies: 300-350 calories
- Don’t cook your veggies first, just open the bag and place them into a quart ziplock, they will thaw enough for them to took in the coffee pot.
Single pack of Tuna Herb and Garlic creations with 1/3 avacado, “Flat out” brand 100 calorie wraps. = 300 calories. ( I sometimes find the these wraps in the produce section of Walmart and target)
Dinner options:
6 ounces of chicken with ½ cup quinoa or ½ cup brown rice- 2 cups or 1 bag veggies= 400 calories
8 ounces grilled tilapia with 1 cup quinoa and 2 tablespoons Potbelly Hot peppers= 400 calorie
-this dish is hot! But sooo good!
Snack options:
Shakeology
One apple and 2 string cheese (frigo brand is best- light) = 200 cal
100 calorie greek yogurt with ½ cup Kashi= 170 cal
Fiber one bar- chocolate chip: 140 cal
Cut up red, orange, yellow bell peppers – cut up zucchini- cherry tomatoes with Hummus. I generally don’t do the hummus cause, just like peanut butter, I tend to over eat it. But fresh peppers are always in my bag.
Food bag essentials:
32 can cooler from Target – its called Maxcold and about 25$ OR Wal-mart on line has a good one too for about the same price.
Silverware and bowl- I have an old Glad collapsible one, but they don’t make them anymore, Tupperware has them. I also bring a smaller bowl for my oatmeal and yogurt mixes.
7 extra quart freezer bags. ( 7 is just a lucky number, I’m superstitious)
Cinnamon, Coconut oil in a freezer bag (don’t every put it in the cubby in back- it melts)
When I make my chicken I thaw an entire frozen bag of chicken, usually the 2.5 lb bag- Target has an awesome one called Sea salt and olive oil. Thaw, place in 9×13 use 2 cans of low sodium chicken broth and bake for 30-35 minutes at 350.
Take it out and let cool- cut into cubes and weigh it out. Put in separate quart freezer bag separate from veggies ( you can place chicken with your rice or quinoa if you want. ) I just like my veggies separate.
